A warm welcome to our new and returning families from your Rawlinson parent council!   We hope that you are all transitioning to your“Back to School” routine with ease,  and we look forward to seeing you all in the coming days and weeks.  If your child is no longer at Rawlinson, please drop us a note and we will remove you from this email distribution list.

We are sending this email to let you know about some upcoming events:

FIRST SAC (PARENT COUNCIL) MEETING – Thursday, September 19 – 6:30pm

We hope you will join us for our first SAC meeting of the year on Thursday, September 19th.  We are a very active parent council and welcome new families.
SAC initiatives include promoting parent and community engagement, enhanced programming for students and their families, and fundraising to support those and other initiatives, all with the goal to improve student achievement. We welcome and encourage new voices to help plan for the coming year.

We will be holding elections at the first meeting.  We will elect up to 25 parent voting members, of which the following are executive positions:

  • secretary/s
  • treasurer/s
  • chair /s

Please join us for a meet and greet at 6:30, followed by the meeting starting at 7 p.m.  Free childcare is always provided.

50K CLUB – starts on  MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 7:45 am soccer field

The ever-popular Rawlinson 50K Club, our annual running club, starts next week, and all are welcome! 50K Club is an established tradition at Rawlinson, where students, families, teachers and administrators, are challenged to run, jog, walk or run 250 laps or more (!)  of the soccer field (50 kilometres) over a four-week period.  All participants receive a popsicle stick for each lap completed, and record their distances daily in their log book. All participants, regardless of distance completed,  are recognized at a school-wide assembly!

CHANGE OF DATE – FREE Anti-Bullying Presentation for parents–THURSDAY OCTOBER 3rd in the evening.
Please note that the presentation originally scheduled for Tuesday October 1st has been changed to Thursday October 3rd in the evening.  Additional details will be sent out closer to the date.
All Rawlinson students will attend one of three bullying prevention assemblies presented by speaker Anthony McLean on September 12th.  His iEngage program empowers students and staff to create a safe, positive and inclusive climate in schools.   Mr McLean also has a presentation geared to parents and we are delighted that he will be presenting at Rawlinson to our parents on Thursday October 3rd in the evening (likely 6:30pm)

Each year Rawlinson participates in the QSP magazine program.  For each magazine subscription purchases, a percentage of the proceeds goes to Rawlinson SAC.  This campaign is an important fund raiser, and all profits contribute to funding our initiatives.
The campaign will kick off on September 17th, and all students will be bringing home information.  Please note that magazines can be ordered through QSP throughout the year, not just during the fall campaign.
